National Hockey League Scheduling Using a Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm

چکیده

The National Hockey League of North America is the premier ice hockey league in the world. It consists of 30 teams that play 82 games each a season, for a total of 1230 games across all teams. Determining a schedule for games is a very difficult task as there is a number of different, often conflicting factors that must be addressed, such as travel distance, fairness, and revenue. A multiobjective evolutionary algorithm is proposed to solve this problem of finding good schedules. The details of the implementation of the algorithm are presented, as well as an analysis of the results obtained. Comparison of the results with current schedules shows improvements across all objectives identified.
